Estimator II
The primary responsibility of the Estimator II is to assist project managers and chief estimators to analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documents to prepare time, material, equipment, and labor cost estimates for projects.
Reports to: Project Support Manager
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist and supervise quantity survey, site survey, and investigations.
- Review data to determine material, subcontractors, equipment, and labor requirements.
- Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors, and determining cost effectiveness.
- Prepare estimate summary for all or portion of total estimate.
- Review estimate with project managers.
- Supervise takeoff personnel while performing work in accordance with specifications.
- Review successful estimates with project developers and area managers prior to job commencement.
- Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions. Recapitulate quantities for pricing. Prepare or assist in project budgets.
- Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Advise and assist in conventional bids to owners.
- Report to the chief estimator the risks and special considerations of a project for profit evaluation.
- Assist area managers with the preparation of project change estimates as directed by chief estimator.
- Seek cost-effective methods of construction used by superintendents and area managers for inclusion in estimating projects.
- Assist Estimating Department in preparation of bid package for subcontractor quotation.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
TRAINING
On the job.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of four years of civil or industrial construction estimating experience.
- Experience managing, directing, and following up with appropriate company personnel, subcontractors and general contractors.
SKILLS
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
